This is the perfect base for families or groups of friends to enjoy all the Vendee has to offer – long sandy beaches, rolling countryside, local vineyards, “green Venice”, historic towns and monuments, and much more.
From the outside the house looks like a typical Vendeen home, but walk through the front door and you're in a completely different world. The high curved wooden ceiling of the huge 11 x 5 metre living/kitchen/dining area is stunning. This room has double doors out on to the large south facing terrace with lovely views over the town of Mareuil and its famous medieval church. Oak floors and doors emphasise the wooden theme inside the house; the twin bedroom has a lovely oak staircase up to the mezzanine area (very low ceiling so only suitable for children or small people!). The master bedroom also overlooks the terrace, and bedroom 3, another double, looks to the front. The bathroom has washbasin, loo and corner bath, and the wet room has open shower, washbasin and loo.
It's a 2 minute walk down into Mareuil sur Lay, a thriving small town with local shops and bars, swimming pool and river. It's large enough to provide all amenities such as bars, restaurants, patisserie and supermarket, but still retaining the character and feel of a typical French village. On the doorstep are river and country walks, canoeing or following the local vineyard trail.
The long sandy beaches of the Vendee coast are an easy half hour drive, La Rochelle is 40 minutes south, and further afield, Nantes, Angers and the Loire Valley are steeped in the culture and history of Western France.
