Summary: We really enjoyed staying at this property which is converted to a very high standard. The family made us very welcome and the quiet setting next to the manor house with its extensive gardens, orchard and woodland made us feel privileged guests. The weather was ideal for our stay and sitting outside in the evening with a relaxing view of the sunset over neighbouring farmland was the perfect end to our days of exploration in the area. Opposite the property is an ancient lavoir (outdoor wash house) fed by a spring and about 15 minutes walk away is a prehistoric dolmen. The nearby village of Deneze sous Doue has caves with amazing carvings brought to life by a very knowledgable guide. Within 30 to 40 minutes drive there is a wealth of castles, former troglodite villages, ancient abbeys and gardens. Breze Chateau and the walk through its tunnels and around the deep moat was outstanding. The nearby troglodite village of Rochemenier was fascinating. Fontevraud Abbey is very special with its links to Planatagent times. And perhaps the most memoriable town was Angers with both its stunning chateau containing the Apocalypse tapestry and the lovely cathedral with so much beautiful stained glass. In all, quite a memorable holiday.
