The neighbouring Criffel Hill, which climbs to 569m and gives superb trekking options, has wonderful views of the farms and sands of the Nith Estuary below. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is located adjacent to the settlement and provides panoramic views of the Solway Firth, Cumbrian Lake District to the south, and Galloway Hills to the west.
